Today you may noticed many Balinese people in traditional dress.

Purnama, or full moon in Bali is a special day for ceremonies and festivities. Hundreds of temples all over the island celebrate this special day hosting splendid ceremonies.

 

Balinese believe that Purnama is a propitious day when Gods descend to the earth and give their blessing. On this sacred day, hundreds of ceremonies are held in all corners of the island to satisfy and honor the gods with offerings such as food, fruit and flowers. The Balinese themselves are then blessed by performing various rituals using holy water, incense smoke, petals and rice grains.

Buda Cemeng Klawu

Another unique ceremony which is annually held by the Balinese is "Buda Cemeng Klawu" ceremony or many people called it as "Buda Wage Klawu". This ceremony is held to ask for welfare and and also to thank the God as the creator of the universe, from his manifestation as Dewi Laksmi.

Buda Cemeng Klawu Ceremony is held by the Balinese specially for those who has a trading business such as seller in the market, restaurants, workshops, stores and many more. Usually they put the offerings in the place where they save the money to thank Ida Betara Sedana or Dewi Laksmi for his blessings.

 From the Hindu's Literature, Money is essentially not the Goal of Life. If the money is used based on the concept of God, it will be useful to reach the inner (heart) and outer (social) happiness. But, if the money is used as the most valuable goal of life, then it will caused a misery. So we should use the money wisely and not use it as the goal of life but use in the concept of god to create kindness and peace..

NYEPI IN BALI

Bali (9/03/16).
Nyepi is a Balinese “Day of Silence” that is commemorated every Isaawarsa (Caka New Year 1938) according to the Balinese calendar which fell on March 9^th 2016. It is Hindu celebration in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a Government holiday in Indonesia, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.

There are some events before and after Nyepi Day as follow:

MELASTI OR MEKIYIS            : Sunday, 6^th March 2016.

Melasti ceremony held once a year to coincide the welcome of Nyepi Day / Silent Day. Melasti procession is usually held four / three days before Nyepi / Silent Day. This is done because in accordance to the purpose of this ceremony where before Nyepi Day that all the elements at Bhuana Alit and Bhuana Agung should be clean and pure. This is very important because the feelings / heart clean and pure, we can implement Nyepi Day perfectly. On this day, Kuta Beach will be closed starting 06.00 a.m. until the ceremony is finished and some of the roads around Kuta Beach also close for a while, during the parade procession is held.

PENGERUPUKAN DAY    : Tuesday, 8^th March 2016

The day before Nyepi is called Pengerupukan Day. It is time for Hindus people making offerings targeted at Bhuta Kala or can be called negative things that will not interfere in people's lives.

Pengerupukan conducted shortly after mecaru, is to create a flame or torch to torch the house, ring the gong to make noise. So expect the Bhuta Kala get out of our environment.

At the village level held processions Ogoh-Ogoh. It’s very identical with Nyepi Day in Bali. It can be said that Ogoh-Ogoh is the most interesting event among the series of Nyepi Ceremony.

NYEPI DAY                    : Wednesday, 9^th March 2016 
Nyepi is started at 6 in the morning after Pengerupukan night and will be lasting until 6 in the next morning. Nyepi Day is reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restricted are: no lighting fires; no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty. The only people to be seen outdoors are Pecalang, traditional security men who patrol the streets to ensure the prohibitions are being followed.

Although Nyepi is primarily a Hindu holiday, non-Hindu residents of Bali observe the day of silence as well, out of respect for their fellow citizens. Even tourists are not exempt; although free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the beaches or Street, and the only Airport in Bali remains closed for entire day. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles carrying those with life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.

NGEMBAK GENI            : Thursday, 10^th March 2016
Following Nyepi Day is a Balinese holiday known as Ngembak Geni. What is special about this day is traders are allowed to sell their goods on the beach, it is called Pasar Maja Langu on the beaches from Kuta up to Seminyak and centralized in the front of Segara Temple Kuta. This once a year event is fabulous and always popular with the locals and domestic tourists as well as those from overseas. It is a great family event with the market open from morning until late at night.

Kajeng Kliwon Ceremony in Bali

Bali, the island of God is colored by many cultural ceremony that making this island become more interesting to be visited. Kajeng Kliwon Ceremony is one of the ceremony that celebrated regularly every 15 days. This ceremony is believed as the sacred day to conduct a physical and spiritual purification, to cleanse the mind, to supernaturally get rid of evil elements in residential environs through specified ceremony or to wipe out the pest from agricultural fields.   

 

At this day the Balinese Hindus meditate and pray at the temple with some offerings. Pray for God’s protection and also the gratefulness that always given to the human being and environmental. Some people also prefer to going to the certain temple to meditate or conduct ascetic practice to gain certain psychic power. 

 

As an expression of respect, in Kajeng Kliwon day the Balinese present the offering of segehan and tetabuhan arak berem (a kind of liquor) in the yards of their houses, entry door and other spots. Segehan is a special offering made of rice in five colours: red, black, white, yellow, and mixed colors, with salt, onion and ginger being laid on the top. All are arranged in a certain fashion and put on a plant leaf.

 

Segehan and its essentials are presented to the supernatural forces to avoid disturbance to the harmonious relationship of man with nature. The Kajeng KIiwon rite has been conducted for hundreds of years and has presumably contributed to the creation of Bali as a safe and comfortable haven. The belief that human life cannot be separated from universal rhythm has prompted Balinese to always observe Kajeng Kliwon rite.

Risata Bali Resort & Spa also regularly conduct a Kajeng kliwon ceremony at our resort temple attended by the staff and lead by the priest. All of our guest may see the ceremonial by attend the ceremony at the temple or just for taking some pictures. We always do the ceremony in the morning and the event will take 1 - 1,5 hours.

Pagerwesi Ceremony

Balinese Hindus today (02/12/15) are celebrating Pagerwesi Ceremony. Pagerwesi Ceremony is one of the major ceremony for Bali’s Hindus which is celebrated on Wednesday every 210 days.

The word "Pagerwesi" means "iron fence" (Pager = Fence, Wesi = Iron), the philosophy is the day to strengthen the fortifications against evil.

Just like the other ceremony in Bali, the special offerings will be made and pray in the family temple (Merajan) or Balinese Hindus also pray to some temples nearby.
